Doxa Sub 300 Carbon-Review and Thoughts

It’s no secret

that we are huge fans of Doxa watches. In fact, one of our first Whiskey and a Watch pairings was a Doxa Sub 1200 and a bottle of Jefferson’s Ocean. Doxa’s latest release, the Doxa Sub 300 Carbon Aqua Lung, fuses the classic styling of the Doxa Sub 300 Sharkhunter with bold new colors, and innovative technology. We wanted to say that this is the most daring Doxa to date, but we’re not sure anything can be more daring than the Solid Gold Doxa Sub 200 T. Graph Limited Edition. So now, we present you with Doxa’s second most daring watch to date, the Doxa Sub 300 Carbon.

In the picture above, it is clear to see the visual differences in the new Doxa 300 Carbon and traditional Sub 300 Sharkhunter. For starters, the bezel accents and minute hand on the Carbon are yellow, as opposed to orange on the classic 300 Sharkhunter. The lume on the Carbon seems to be a bright white, while the original Sub 300 Sharkhunter has a vintage, aged lume look. The Carbon, also ditches the classic Doxa beads of rice bracelet, and uses a sleek looking rubber strap.

On the Doxa website description, they say the this watch “pushes the envelope”, which more than describes what is going on here. We love that Doxa is taking one of the most classic designs for a dive watch getting creative with new materials and colors. This watch is reminiscent of when Breitling took their classic Breitling Colt design and made the Breitling Colt Skyracer.

Using the timeless Aqua-Lung logo on this innovative watch truly combines the past with the future. Doxa is only making 300 of these, and we have no doubt that they will sell every one of them. The only hangup we had with this watch is that it retails for $4,790, which is almost a $3,000 premium over the traditional Doxa Sharkhunter. That $3k, is nothing compared to the $70,000 price difference between the Doxa Sub 200 T Graph and it’s solid gold brother, the Solid Gold Doxa Sub 200 T. Graph Limited Edition.
